Final Opening

Rough Editing

Conventions

Representation

Our main character is a 23 years old. She is a young vampire but using her life like normal human. We made her to be a mysterious person for example , in the first scene on her hands display some blood stain. Our opening credit is represent her normal night routine. We wanted she to be high class modern working women. However , she also gives a sense of innocence, purity and danger by taking a extreme close up shot. We used the background music to make it feel calm and relaxing but in the same time it is conflict with the main concept. We don't want the audience to know that she is a vampire from the opening credit. We just wanted to give a little hint make the audiences want to continue watching the film.

Dream casting

Kristen Jaymes Stewart
She is an American actress. She was born in April 9, 1990. The reason I chose Kristen to be my dream casting is because as a child I watched Twilight and she always made me feel that she is a real vampire. So I think she will the most suitable person to be our main character. She looks high class and modern and still looks young . Moreover , her eyes can make audience feel the mysterious. She is very beautiful but have something hidden behind.

Issues

She is a vampire but she try make people think she is a normal. In the same time every night she went out to kill human to drink bloods.

Audience

We used YouGov to help identify our target audience

The Vampire Diaries & Twilight

From the result, both of the result are females. The similarities is that they seems to like to relax and watch movies and enjoy staying at home to play video games, doing things at home. They are bighearted and a telly addict.
Feedback from someone who fits our target audience.
Praew - "The music fits well with the atmosphere that the protagonist is in, it is mysterious and dark. However the diegetic sound of the surrounding is light and peaceful which makes me feels like the two elements is fighting for dominance."
George - "I really love the camera work, the contrast between closeups and other shots really make it interesting and encapturing. I really like how you used blood on her hands, and the blood draining away. The connection between luxury and wealth, sexuality, and murder, made it all very dark, and made me hooked, wanting to know what really happened to the girl."

Distribution

This film is targeting on teenagers to young adult. It will be publish on October to November is because it is vampire movie 31st October is Halloween day. Also most the successful film were published in this period time.

We will use the large distribution to distribute our movie. We will marketing by focusing on social media because every teenagers to young adult are using internet and social media so it would be the most effective way to advertise and attract the audience. Furthermore , we can also put them in the bill broad in the middle city and next to the university or college.

Skill development

Codes and conventions

At the beginning of the project , I dont even know what are they but after I asked my media teacher to explain and research them by myself many ideas came up in my heads. Convention of thriller must have low key lighting , shadows. Moreover we must used tension music and diegetic sound of breathing. The main character will have a hidden identity that audience will uncover. So I have learn more about codes and conventions from doing this project.

Planing and organisation

In this part I think we did not do well because we did not spend time to planning as much as we could use. However , we did really well on organisation by splitting each task to each member. I was taking part of finding a props and location that will suit with our concept , finding sound effect and doing camera work. Ploy is also help me with the camera work and finding sound effects , she is the main editor. Mint is a main actress and she also take part of thinking the main storyline.

Camera work

I improved a lot in this area. I learnt many camera shots such as pan shot , close up etc. I was the main person who was filming so I needed to used a lot of camera angle which will be fit with the concept of the storyline. Closeup shot is very also important for thriller because closeup shot will give a tension to the audience.

Visual FX

I did not use any effects in the opening credits. The only thing we did is to adjust the contrast and the lighting to be darker. For example, in the last scene we lower the solution and contrast down because we were using food colouring which is very bright and colourful and it doesn't look like a blood.  We also cropped some of the scene to make a closeup shot.

Planing

On the first 2 lessons , I was not in school because I was ill. However , as soon as I got better , I’ve tried to catch up with Mint and Ploy which are member of my team.  I was glad to hear that because we’ve been doing many group work together. This could help the process to become more efficient. They told me that , at first they were discussed about the main theme of the film and they decided to do thriller and psychological opening sequence which was inspired by opening sequence of Dexter. From this opening credit , they use the morning routine to describe the main character's life style , domestic environment and the psychological state , which significant for the main storyline.

After they had chosen the main storyline. The first thought of the plot was a normal night routine of a business women , which is started from the journey of the main character walking along the train station by using with parallel and long shot to show tone and surrounding environment. When the main character gets back to her apartment is when the night routine begins. We will use all the extreme close up shot to gives a tense and tension of feeling such as when the main character brush their or taking their clothes off. In the mean time , we've watch the trailer of black swan so we came out with an new idea , that we are going to remove the reflection from the mirror while the main character brushes her teeth.

On the third lesson which i came back to school , Mr.Harrison (our media teacher) made each group pair up to tell the other group about our storyline , sound effect , camera angle etc. and filled in the feedback sheet ( below picture). There are both negative and positive comment , most of them are concerned about our storyline could make the audience confused and it is too short. However , they really like our main theme of story and camerawork. At the end of the lesson , we decided to change our storyline but we still based on night routine.

On the last lesson of planning, we went to many booking website such as booking.com Agoda etc to find the hotel or apartment that will be fit with our theme the most and to compare the price. We decided to go to In Residence Sukhumvit Bangkok. There are many reasons why we chose this hotel. Firstly , it is big , modern and there are many facilities we can use e.g. bathtub , working table. Moreover , it is in the middle of the city so it is easy to transport.

Once we arrived at the hotel , we have changed storyline because the facilities and location could not fit well with some of the scene. We used a canon camera because it is easy to use , high quality and school is already provided. In the scenes that we need to film them in the bath room , we were having a problems with the lighting. The light was too dark and yellow so we tried to solve it by using iphone flashlight but it was not look natural. However , we think that we could solve this problem in the editing process instead. Most of the scenes I used tripod to make the camera to be the most stable as much as possible. For the props we dont have to spend a lot of money on it because some of the them school is already provided and some hotel is provided such as slippers ( in the first scene ) etc.

Editing process

We used Final cut pro to editing about opening credit. We adjust the light and contrasted of each video in each scene to make them become more alike and fit with thriller concept. We found out that the sound of each video was not working because of the surrounded noise. So I was searching for the sound effect on youtube instead. We could not find some of the sound. To solve this Mr.Harrison recommended us to record sound by ourselves. For the background music , it was very difficult to fins it because most of them have copyright. We decided to cut of the scene that Mint is closing the curtain because it could not fit with the others and the angle of the shot is not good as the others.
